Couples Therapy: Reconnect, Repair, Thrive

Are you facing challenges in communicating and connecting with your partner? Do you often feel overlooked, unheard, or taken for granted? Are repetitive conflicts leaving you without effective resolutions? Perhaps you're longing to rekindle the spark that brought you together, repair ruptures, and foster a more loving, intimate, and connected relationship. Issues with intimacy or a breach of trust might be causing dissatisfaction and loneliness. Alternatively, after years of shared life responsibilities, you may find yourselves feeling more like roommates than lovers, accompanied by emotions of sadness, helplessness, and longing.

Creating Common Ground

Designating a dedicated time for open communication in a neutral space can provide the common ground needed for mutual understanding and compromise.

How We Work Together

In addition to addressing specific communication patterns, we delve into underlying feelings, aiming for a deeper understanding that fosters mutual respect and awareness. I employ a combination of couples therapy approaches.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

I incorporate EFT, recognized as one of the most effective couples therapy methods with high success rates (see research survey). EFT focuses on helping you and your partner experience being in each other’s care. Through collaborative sessions, we deescalate tension, slow down conversations, and enhance understanding of each other's needs. Shifting the focus from "me" to "you" in an intimate relationship allows for a powerful connection.

Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT)

Developed by renowned relationship therapist Dr. Stan Tatkin, PACT integrates mind and body functions to help couples create an enduring, secure, and long-lasting relationship.

In PACT sessions, you will learn:

  • How to protect and care for each other.

  • The impact of messages like “Love yourself first before loving anyone else” in relationships.

  • The role of values and beliefs in commitment.

  • Strategies to create a foundation of safety, security, and love.

PACT sessions, usually 2-3 hours in length, require fewer sessions than traditional therapy. We navigate issues as they arise, working collaboratively to bring awareness to your present moment experience and gain clarity about thoughts and feelings.

Psychoanalytic-Informed Couples Therapy

Additionally, I offer psychoanalytic-informed couples therapy, drawing on the rich tradition of psychoanalysis to explore unconscious dynamics, past experiences, and patterns that may influence current relationship dynamics. This approach allows for a deeper exploration of individual and shared histories, providing insight into how past experiences may impact present behaviors within the relationship.

Your Concerns Addressed

Is therapy worth the investment?

Consider couples counseling an essential investment in yourself, your partner, and your relationship. Turmoil in an intimate partnership can affect all aspects of life, while a healthy relationship can generate positivity and productivity. Commitment to improvement and engagement in the process can yield results in just a few sessions.

Ready to reconnect and thrive in your relationship? Let’s embark on this journey together.
